The New York Red Bulls are a deep side in 2018. Jesse Marsch rolled out a team in which just two players, Luis Robles and Sean Davis, started against Tijuana in The CONCACAF Champions League. Seven homegrown or former academy players got the chance to play against one of the Western Conference’s premier sides. They did not disappoint.
From start to finish, this inexperienced and mostly second-string Red Bulls side overwhelmed Portland. They got off to a hot start when 17-year-old Ben Mines scored his first career goal and the first goal of the game in the 18th minute.
