A 3-0 loss to New York City FC on Wednesday ended the Montreal Impact’s four-match winning streak. The defeat was a worrying sign that the inconsistency which was prevalent in the opening stages of the season might be returning. Fast forward to Saturday, though, and the Impact put any thoughts of a slump behind them as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.
The Impact went ahead quite early in the match when Saphir Taider scored in the eighth minute with an assist from Ignacio Piatti. There were other opportunities for both clubs to score as the match progressed, but Evan Bush stood firm in net and ensured that he would pick up yet another clean sheet.
