Major League Soccer is a unique league in the football world. Because of the Americanisms of the structure of the league, there is a very different feel to the competition. There is a salary cap, roster designations, an imbalanced fixture schedule, conferences, and, crucially, playoffs. These are not routine in world football.
And this year, the MLS Playoffs have been more frantic, exciting and brilliant than ever. Extra-time victories, last-gasp goals, controversial decisions, local derbies, and upsets galore, this has been a terrific advert for postseason football.
