Minnesota United trade #1 spot in MLS allocation order

Rather than looking to bring in a big name player, Minnesota United elected to give up the top spot in the league allocation process. In exchange, Minnesota received 225k in 2018 Allocation Money, and an international roster spot for 2017. The Allocation Money was split $125k from the Whitecaps TAM amount and $100k from GAM.

Vancouver used the number one spot to sign Colombian striker Fredy Montero on loan from his parent club in China.

As a result of the trade, Minnesota and Vancouver will trade places in the Allocation Order, meaning that Minnesota now possesses the #5 spot.
