The Loons will pick 5th overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft that will take place on January 19th in Philadelphia. Who will they select with their first round pick?
The Loons desperately need some squad depth, so picking 5th should allow them to pick up a cheap depth piece that could really help the team. For a comparison, Ghanaian Center back Lalas Abubakar was selected 5th by the Columbus Crew in last year’s draft, and appeared in 7 matches for the Crew last season, while making several starts. On a team like Minnesota’s with less depth than Columbus, the Loons will certainly be hoping for someone who can make 10-15 appearances throughout the season, provided much-needed depth, and hopefully offering solid production in the process.
