Soccer is a funny game sometimes. Sporting Kansas City had over 60% possession, they nearly doubled up Montreal in passes completed, and had 15 shots. Some failure to finish and one bad giveaway was all it took to erase all of that work and end the match in a 1-1 draw.
The game was playing out how you would expect it to, a shorthanded Montreal couldn’t possess the ball and SKC pinned them back for the entire first half. Dom Dwyer hit the crossbar, then a beautiful long ball from Ilie Sanchez to Gerso put Sporting up 1-0.
