D.C. United had a whole lot of work to do. The Montreal Impact made quite the statement with a 5-1 win over Minnesota United on Saturday. D.C., hosting the Chicago Fire, needed to win. It wasn’t looking good when Raheem Edwards smashed in the opening goal.
But then Wayne Rooney happened. Almost like a microcosm for the season, D.C. rested on the inspiration of their great new striker and rode it all the way to a precious three points to keep their playoff hopes very much alive.
