The Western playoff race is reaching its climax. Prior to Wednesday night, second through eighth were separated by just four points. The Los Angeles Galaxy were at the bottom of this group, but with a trip to the tenth-placed Colorado Rapids, there was anticipation that they could leap into the playoff places with a win. How wrong we all were.
The Rapids handed the Galaxy second successive defeat, meaning they are now winless in four matches and have just one victory in their last seven. There was late controversy, which I will get to in due course, but the LA Galaxy will be ruing a missed opportunity to make up ground in an insanely tight race.
