The Chicago Red Stars seem to finally be getting it going with a 3-1 win over the North Carolina Courage. With their main USWNT players away, Katie Johnson out suspended, and Alyssa Mautz sidelined with an injury, the odds were not for them. But the Red Stars proved their quality of depth with a convincing win over the reigning champions.
The first goal of the game came in the 13th minute when Vanessa DiBernardo found Yuki Nagasato on the outside in open space with a lethal pass. Yuki responded with her own cutting pass ahead to Sam Kerr, who finished it just underneath Katelyn Rowland.
