Without a significant look into Atlanta United’s pre-season friendlies, it is hard to guess what Frank de Boer will do tactically. Based on his history with Ajax of Amsterdam, there’s a good chance de Boer will play in either a 4-3-3 or a 3-4-3. There also may be a 3-5-2 wrinkle with this team, since former coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino found success using both that formation and a 5-3-2.
The Five Stripes most recently addressed a need in center-back depth by signing Florentin Pogba. Assuming that the current roster, which is set at 32 players, is Atlanta’s final roster for Champions League and MLS regular season play, we can begin to guess what Atlanta’s best starting line-ups are with a variety of formations.
