The 2019 MLS season begins this weekend. For Atlanta United, they open the season at 6 PM on Sunday night as they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on D.C. United. Unfortunately, D.C. United is a bit like kryptonite for the Five Stripes. In six meetings, D.C. has four wins to Atlanta’s two and an aggregate score of 11-9.
For opening weekend, there is an added wrinkle: Atlanta is playing in CONCACAF Champions League and, depending on Thursday night’s result against CS Herediano, we may see some squad rotation.
