On Friday August 19th, the president of future MLS club Atlanta United FC, set to join the league in 2017, Darren Eales was interviewed on Forbes SportsMoney about the change in American soccer culture and the fanbase that surrounds Atlanta United.
Eales used to play collegiate soccer at Brown University from 1991-1994 as well as a short stint as a professional player at the Hampton Road Mariners, currently known as the Virginia Beach Mariners in the USL First Division. Because of his time in early American soccer culture, Eales was able to experience the beginning of soccer fandom in the US and the beginnings of the MLS as a whole.
