Below, we have the date and time for the deadline, as well as why the MLB moved the Trade Deadline.
Date: August 1st
As mentioned, the MLB has elected to move the deadline back a full 24 hours. More on the "why" below.
Time: 4 p.m. ET
This part is not changing. The deadline has been at 4 p.m. ET for years and it will be again this year. And for those of you living on the West Coast, it's at 1 p.m.
Why The Change:
The standard July 31st deadline falls on a Sunday. As a result the MLB moved the date back a full day. The league's reasoning is that they didn't want the deadline to interfere with the games being played Sunday. Hence, the extra day of Hot Stove fun.
When Are The Games:
Had the deadline remained on July 31st, 12 games would have started before the 4 p.m. deadline and three more right at the deadline time. But with the change, all the games on Monday are evening games, allowing all the media and fan attention to focus on the deadline.
