New York Yankees third baseman and AL Rookie of the Year runner-up Miguel Andujar has a small labrum tear in his right shoulder, manager Aaron Boone said Monday, with season-ending surgery a possibility.
Andújar was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier Monday due to a right shoulder strain he suffered on a headfirst slide Sunday.
According to Boone, there is optimism that Andújar won't need surgery if the injury is treated conservatively.
"It's a small labrum tear, so we're gonna treat it conservatively for a couple weeks and see how he responds to it, and then at that point make a decision, which surgery could be in play, which would obviously compromise his season," Boone said.
