The New York Yankees announced that they have placed right-handed starting pitcher Luis Gil on the 15-day injured list with a lower back strain. In a corresponding move, right-handed starter Will Warren has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Gil left his start against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday in the fourth inning. Larry Fleisher of the Associated Press provided more details.
"After throwing an 89 mph changeup to Jose Ramírez, the right-hander called for an athletic trainer. Following a brief meeting on the mound that included New York manager Aaron Boone, Gil was replaced by Tim Hill.
