On Monday September 21st, the Milwaukee Brewers hired 30-year-old Houston Astros Assistant GM David Stearns. Now fully in the age of the young GM, the Brewers will be the latest team to hire a young gun with an impressive sports background in analytics in addition to front office know how. Taking over for former GM turned adviser Doug Melvin, Stearns is tasked with reversing the downward trend that has plagued the Brewers since last September’s epic collapse down the stretch.
With baseball front office positions continually trending towards the youngest and brightest minds, it’s no longer a prerequisite that one must have played the game at it’s highest level to be qualified.
