Twins grant OF Quentin's request for release

Veteran outfielder Carlos Quentin asked for and received his release from the Minnesota Twins on Monday.

Quentin had been reassigned by the Twins to their minor league camp on Saturday but refused the assignment.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan told reporters that Quentin indicated he was not looking to sign with another team and instead has decided to return home to be with his family.

Quentin, 33, hit .250 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 15 spring training games. He had agreed to a minor league contract with the Twins on Feb.
