Torey Lovullo didn’t earn his promotion the way most people do.
The Boston Red Sox bench coach was thrust into his role as interim manager under unfortunate circumstances when John Farrell announced he had been diagnosed with Stage 1 lymphoma on Aug. 14.
And Lovullo said he’s had to learn a lot as he goes along.
“I learned that the manager has a lot of responsibilities behind the scenes that could easily cause a distraction,” Lovullo said before Sunday’s 2-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles. “I learned that 7:00 is my favorite part of the day.
