Move over R.A. Dickey, there’s a new knuckleballer dominating the majors.
Steven Wright was struggling in the low minors and considered what he might start doing after baseball. What about working as a contractor or valeting cars while taking classes? His need to make those plans suddenly change when a few coaches spotted him fooling around with a knuckleball.
Impressed by the movement, they tell Wright to use the pitch in games. After finding success with the pitch in his repertoire, the Cleveland Indians asked him to switch to using the knuckleball full time, instead of just as an out pitch.
