The Rogers Centre New Groundball-Swallowing Turf

Before the start of Monday’s home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays 3rd base coach Luis Rivera spent time hitting fungoes to test out the nap of the new artificial turf playing surface that was installed in the Rogers Centre in the off season.

Rivera hit fifteen line drives to the outfield, but not a single one of them rolled to the outfield wall. Through the first two games of the Rays-Jays series, the turf has proven to be very slow, possibly slower than what Toronto management thought it would be.
