On Monday, the Tampa Bay Rays traded nine-year veteran infielder Alexi Casilla to the Detroit Tigers for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The news of the transaction was reported via Twitter by Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press.
According to Fenech, the move was made by the Tigers in order to boost its organizational depth in the middle infield. Casilla has primarily played at second base throughout the course of his professional career, but he has also accumulated a good deal of playing time as a shortstop.
