Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos is leaving the team and has turned down a multiyear extension offer, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney, confirming a report by Sportsnet.
Anthopoulos' contract was set to expire Saturday.
During his season-ending news conference Monday, Anthopoulos said he had "great discussions'' with incoming president Mark Shapiro since Aug. 31, when the longtime Indians executive was announced as Toronto's new hire, effective Nov. 1.
Shapiro is replacing longtime Blue Jays executive Paul Beeston, the team's original employee. It is unclear if Shapiro will assume controls of the Blue Jays' baseball operations or if he will hire a new general manager.
