Yankees prospect C Gary Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a home run, double and three RBI on Wednesday for Double-A Trenton.
Sanchez has begun to heat up at the plate, as he’s 8-for-19 with two home runs and eight RBI in his last four games. Overall, the 22-year-old is batting .255/.306/.382 with seven extra-base hits (three homers) and 25 strikeouts in 25 games. Sanchez has spent parts of the last three seasons in the Eastern League but simply hasn’t progressed as hoped, batting .265/.337/.398 with 18 home runs in 698 plate appearances during his time at Trenton. Though he’s still a notable prospect, Sanchez is a far cry from the offense-driven backstop he seemed destined to become early in his career.
