San Diego Padres lose shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. in sixth inning with right oblique tightness

CHICAGO -- San Diego shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. left the Padres' game Tuesday vs. the Cubs in Chicago with right oblique tightness, according to the team.

The Padres included in their announcement that the move was made for "precautionary reasons" after he went 0-3 on the night.

Tatis, 22, didn't come out to play defense in the bottom of the sixth inning after hitting in the top half. The injury may have occurred during a double-play attempt in the fifth inning after a Kyle Hendricks sacrifice bunt.

Tatis missed time earlier this season with a shoulder ailment, and last month, he tested positive for COVID-19.
