Ruling sits No. 1 LHP Groome, erases 19K no-no

Jason Groome, a left-handed fireballer who has a chance to be the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB draft, was ruled ineligible in New Jersey this week, a situation his family advisor calls "a disgrace."

New Jersey's high school sports governing body said that the Barnegat High School senior violated transfer rules after playing at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., last year. According to NJSIAA, Groome's move from Florida back to New Jersey did not constitute a valid change of address in which a parent of guardian moves with the athlete from one public high school to another.
