Royals' Mondesi first player to debut in Series

Raul A. Mondesi, the son of former Dodgers outfielder Raul Mondesi, became the first player in MLB history to debut in the World Series when he pinch-hit Friday night for the Kansas City Royals in the fifth inning of Game 3 against the New York Mets.

Mondesi, hitting for right-handed reliever Danny Duffy with the Royals training 5-3, struck out swinging to lead off the inning.

Kansas City leads the series 2-0.

Mondesi, 20, hit .243 with a .651 OPS in 81 games for Double-A Northwest Arkansas this season.
