Rounding the Bases: Getting to know Nationals 2B Daniel Murphy

WASHINGTON -- It’s been a whirlwind six months for Daniel Murphy. Last postseason, the former Met hit home runs in six consecutive games (an MLB record) and was named MVP of the NLCS. A month after the World Series, his wife gave birth to their second child, a baby girl named Quinn (to go along with son, Noah). Three weeks later, on Christmas Eve, he signed a three-year, $37.5 million contract with the Nationals. Exactly four months later, the 31-year-old second baseman leads the majors in hitting with a .411 average and is a key reason that Washington boasts the best record in the bigs.
