Rick Porcello: Knight In Shining Armor

Excuse the hyperbole, but the Boston Red Sox entered Tuesday night looking for a starter to take complete control and put the team in position to snap their 4 game losing streak. That is exactly what did for the hometown team. With Boston donning the ’75 throwback jerseys, Porcello turned out one of the most important starts of the season for the Red Sox. Porcello went 7 shutout innings allowing 8 hits and striking out six in route to the Sox 2-0 victory.

Porcello was opposed by his former Detroit Tigers teammate, Drew Smyly, who took a no-hit bid into the 6th inning before Mookie Betts promptly ended both the no-hitter and shutout in one swing of the bat.
