The Washington Nationals, who failed to make the playoffs after being saddled with high expectations, have fired manager Matt Williams, the Washington Post reported Monday.

Williams, the 2014 manager of the year, guided the Nationals to a 83-79 mark and finished seven games back of the New York Mets in the NL East.
