Thee reeling San Diego Padres fired pitching Larry Rothschild on Monday after falling out of the second wild-card spot in the National League.
The Padres (68-58) have lost eight of their past 10 games and now trail the Cincinnati Reds by one game in the wild card standings after holding the spot for most of the season.
"Larry has been a tremendous asset for our organization over the last two seasons, and we appreciate the experience, hard work and dedication that he brought to the position," manager Jayce Tingler said in a statement.
