Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran said he "fell far short" after directing an anti-gay slur toward a fan during Sunday's home game against the Houston Astros.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, in between pitches with the count 1-2 and Houston up 10-0, Duran looked at a heckling fan behind home plate and could be heard on the NESN telecast saying "shut up you f---ing f----t."
"During tonight's game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan," Duran said in a statement released by the Red Sox.
