Rangers sign first-rounder Dillon Tate - Dillon Tate (S) Texas Rangers

Both Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus ranked Tate as the best pitching prospect in the class. At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Tate is an athletic right-hander with a mid-90s fastball that has reached 97-98 in his starts, as well as a slider that ranks as one of the top breaking balls in this year’s class. That Tate lacks experience as a starter makes his changeup all the more impressive, as he exhibits an advanced feel for the pitch with the confidence to throw it in a variety of counts. While he excelled this spring in his first year as a full-time starter, some scouts question whether he has the durability to hold down such a role long term.
