Ventura's nemesis in this one was Mr. Victor Martinez, who accounted for five RBI on the strength of a three-run homer in the third inning and a two-run shot in the fifth. This has been something of a lost season for the 24-year-old right-hander, who has been sidelined by injury for a chunk of the year and has dealt with inconsistency when he's been healthy enough to start for the Royals. Over 95 1/3 innings, he's pitched to a 5.29 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 75/30 K/BB ratio. His remains a talented arm, though at a certain point, it becomes more and more difficult to convince yourself that he's suddenly going to turn things around.
