Current data shows 25% of active MLB pitchers have undergone a reconstruction of the ulnar collateral ligament, also known as Tommy John surgery.

To reach and become successful at the Major League level, baseball players—like all professional athletes—must devote the majority of their time to perfecting their craft. For pitchers in particular, long hours are spent harnessing specific mechanics in hopes of one day landing that starting spot they have been yearning for.

Despite the ”practice makes perfect” approach, overuse of the pitching arm remains an ever-looming possibility. Some careers are cut short due to strain, but others see a second wind.
