Mike Pelfrey received his first loss of the season after surrendering five runs (four earned) over 4 2/3 innings against the Tigers on Thursday.
Pelfrey had jumped out of the gates to a 3-0 start on the season, but that nice streak ground to a halt Thursday afternoon. The Tigers got to him early, scoring three runs in the first inning and never relinquishing the lead in a game they would win 13-1. Pelfrey gave up 10 hits while striking out one and walking two. His low strikeout rate (17/14 K/BB ratio in 39 innings) becomes a legitimate handicap when he's allowing runners on base.
