Pedro Alvarez launched a Scud missile somewhere into the mesosphere Tuesday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman caught all of a Ricky Nolasco pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning against the Minnesota Twins, ripping a solo shot out of PNC Park and into a boat moored in the nearby Allegheny River.
Somehow, the ball did not immediately sink the vessel (though I'd suggest the owner search for a slow leak), and a passerby was able to scavenge the souvenir from the docked bow rider.
The Pirates went on to lose 8-5, but that's not really the point.
