Padres' Ian Kennedy Watches Child's Birth on FaceTime, Pitches 2 Hours Later

“It was just a really crazy day,” San Diego Padres starter Ian Kennedy said in what is the understatement of the year.

Let’s start from the beginning.

The righty was expected to miss Friday’s start against the Miami Marlins because his wife, Allison, was in labor with their fourth child.

Ian Kennedy has left the team to be with his wife, who is in labor with their 4th child. Despaigne will start tonight's game in his place.

Poor weather delayed Kennedy’s flight back to California, so after an hour-and-a-half of waiting, he called Padres pitching coach Darren Balsley and asked if he could still pitch.
