Dylan Cease threw a no-hitter Thursday against the Nationals, becoming the second pitcher in Padres history to achieve the feat.
Cease completed the no-hitter on CJ Abrams' lineout to right field. The hard-throwing right-hander walked three and struck out nine on a season-high 114 pitches.
The only other Padres pitcher to record a no-hitter is Joe Musgrove, who shut down the Rangers on April 9, 2021.
Cease allowed only three baserunners Thursday; Lane Thomas walked with one out in the first inning and was caught stealing, then reached on another walk in the fourth but was erased on Jesse Winker's double-play grounder.
