The Houston Astros are seeking a few upgrades before the July 30 trade deadline, and they've reportedly eyed a pair of veterans from a National League squad.

Per The Athletic's Jim Bowden, Astros general manager Dana Brown "has made it clear to other front offices that he's focused on adding a veteran starter and an impactful long- or short-term solution at first base." While Houston has interest in a long list of players, Brown has reportedly had conversations with the New York Mets about star first baseman Pete Alonso and veteran starter Luis Severino.
