This may be Pete Alonso's final season with the New York Mets since he is scheduled to hit free agency this offseason, but he is reportedly taking a leadership role ahead of the team's playoff push.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported president of baseball operations David Stearns and manager Carlos Mendoza called a team meeting Monday to discuss Francisco Lindor's back injury and how the team would respond.
It was at that meeting that Alonso spoke with "passion" that stood out when discussing how important it is for the team to finish the regular season on a high note and make the playoffs, per Sherman.
