The New York Mets will retire the jersey numbers of pitcher Dwight Gooden and outfielder Darryl Strawberry during the 2024 season, it was announced Wednesday.
Gooden's No. 16 will go first in a ceremony ahead of the Mets' game against the Kansas City Royals on April 14. Strawberry's No. 18 will be retired on June 1 ahead of a game vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The jerseys will be the ninth and 10th to be retired by the Mets.
"It's the highest honor you can get from a team," Gooden told reporters over Zoom on Wednesday.
