A source ESPN.com that the New York Mets have failed to trade right-hander Dillon Gee despite some interest from other clubs.
Instead the team has now placed him on outright waivers for the purpose of sending him to Triple-A Las Vegas. Barring a claim, he would clear waivers on Tuesday.
Adam Rubin points out that because Gee has more than three years of major league service, he could refuse an assignment to Las Vegas if he clears waivers and declare free agency.
