Wei-Yin Chen, Brad Ziegler and Kyle Barraclough fell two outs shy of combining to throw a no-hitter Tuesday night at Safeco Field in the Miami Marlins' 5-0 victory against the Seattle Mariners.
Chen and Ziegler pitched a clean eight innings, but Barraclough allowed the team's first hit with one out in the ninth inning when Mitch Haniger doubled to right-center field, as MLB's official Twitter account documented:
Had they achieved the feat, the Marlins would have become the first team to throw a combined no-hitter since the Philadelphia Phillies did so on Sept.
