Seattle Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray will undergo flexor tendon surgery and miss the rest of the 2023 season, manager Scott Servais told reporters on Wednesday.
Ray went on the injured list on April 1 after failing to make it out of the fourth inning in his only start this season on March 31 in a 9-4 Mariners loss to the Cleveland Guardians.
Ray, 31, has been incredibly durable for most of his career. Aside from the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Ray has made at least 28 starts five times since 2016, including the 2021 season with the Toronto Blue Jays when he won the AL Cy Young Award after he went 13-7 with a 2.
