Lou Brock has part of his leg amputated

One of the most famous baserunners in the history of Major League Baseball is now without part of what was one of his biggest weapons.

Hall of Famer Lou Brock had part of his left leg amputated recently because of an infection related to a diabetic condition, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

From the Post-Dipatch's Rick Hummel:

"An infection relative to a diabetic condition has necessitated the amputation of Brock's left leg just below the knee. But the Brock family has sent a message that the Base Burglar is recovering well and, according to a source, Brock already is taking steps with a walker and will be fitted for a prosthetic device.
