Larry Lucchino stepping down as Red Sox CEO

Larry Lucchino is stepping down as CEO of the Red Sox, the Boston Globe reported Saturday.

“I’ll be 70 in September. That’s sort of why I’m ready to step back,’’ Lucchino told The Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy.

Lucchino has been with the Red Sox for all three of their World Series wins since 2004. He was brought in by the Red Sox ownership group that purchased the team in 2002 and has been lauded by John Henry as the best hire by the team. Lucchino previously worked as President/CEO of the San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles.
