The Chicago Cubs placed starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks on the 10-day disabled list Thursday because of right hand tendinitis.
Jesse Rogers of ESPN confirmed the news and reported Mike Montgomery, who has made 18 appearances out of the bullpen this season, will slide into the rotation to fill the void beginning Friday.
Hendricks is coming off a breakout season for the Cubs, having posted a league-best 2.13 ERA to go with a 16-8 record and a 0.979 WHIP. He finished third in the Cy Young voting in 2016.
