The St. Louis Cardinals are shaking up their front office after promoting John Mozeliak to the role of team president and Mike Girsch to general manager.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch first reported the Cardinals' moves. USA Today's Bob Nightengale confirmed the news.
The move did not come out of the blue, as Nightengale noted it has been discussed within the Cardinals organization for the past year.
Mozeliak took over as the Cardinals general manager following the 2007 season. He helped construct the rosters for six playoff teams, including the 2011 team that won the World Series and 2013 group that won the National League pennant.
