Jen Pawol became the first woman in 17 years to serve as an umpire for an MLB spring training game when she took the field for the Houston Astros at Washington Nationals game on Saturday.
Pawol started as the third base umpire in the Astros' 7-4 win. She then worked second base for three innings before moving to first for the final three frames.
She is working to become the first female umpire in MLB history. Pawol is also the third woman to work a spring training game after Pam Postema (1988) and Ria Cortesio (2007).
