Federal authorities announced Thursday that Ippei Mizuhara, the longtime interpreter for Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, has been charged with bank fraud following allegations that he stole more than $16 million from Ohtani for illegal gambling purposes, per ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.
The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov noted that bank fraud is a felony offense that carries a statutory maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison.
